Impact

I have one mission: to build the financing, policy, and institutions that ensure mothers survive, children thrive, and women lead the peace.

Every number on this page is a person. A mother who made it through delivery. A child who got vaccinated. A woman who walked into a room where the decisions were being made — and changed what came out of it.

Cities & Communities Reached

Founded at 21 during the Libyan revolution, Alaa built a movement of hundreds of community organizations and leaders across Libya and launched the Noor Campaign. She pioneered a faith-rooted approach to inclusive security that has been replicated internationally.

She created the first global faith-philanthropic collaborative for maternal and newborn health. Built a 30+ partner coalition and mobilized Islamic philanthropy - zakat, sadaqah, Ramadan giving - at scale. She then spun it out into an independent organization (Every Pregnancy).

Gates Foundation: Global Health Policy, Program Advocacy and Communications Strategy

Inaugural Director · Institutional Transformation · 20+ HealtH PORTFOLIOS · Investment director

Led a $1B+ portfolio spanning 21 health strategies as inaugural Global Advocacy Director. Drove the resource mobilization strategy across the Foundation's major health financing platforms — including Gavi, the Global Fund, and CEPI — contributing to the $40B+ in capital mobilized for global health and development. Created the Foundation's women's health global advocacy strategy, led its fragile settings programmatic assessment, and established the Fragile, Conflict & Violence community of practice.

The women’s health strategy contributed to the McKinsey-WEF finding of a $1 trillion annual GDP opportunity in closing the women’s health gap — reframing women’s health as economic imperative.

The money to build the world we say we want already exists. What's been missing is the architecture to move it to the people doing the work.
